| Younger Members' and Recruitment Sub-Committee |
Since the New Year the YM&R Group has been busy organising a number of events for the Institution's younger members. There has also been some re-organisation; John D'Arcy has stepped down as Chairman, with Lee Templeman succeeding him. In addition, Robert Sweetnam, Joanna Hurd and, most recently, Helen Iorwerth have joined the Group to help coordinate its various activities. The sub-committee would like to thank
Robert, Joanna and Helen for giving their time to contribute to its work.
Back in March the YM&RG hosted its first technical seminar entitled 'Micro-simulation: the future of traffic modelling?' (full details are provided elsewhere in this newsletter). More recently, on the 21st April, the YM&RG held its second Professional Training seminar, this time in Exeter. Some 20 delegates attended the seminar, with non-members comprising around half the numbers. Senior Vice-President David Hutchinson
welcomed the delegates and highlighted the benefit of IHT membership. David Pugh then gave his presentation on the routes to IEng and CEng status available with the IHT. After a short break, Lyn Mokkram from Cornwall County Council, who recently became an Incorporated Engineer through the IHT, gave a personal view on the process and answered some questions. Finally, Lee Templeman gave delegates an overview of the activities of the YM&RG and highlighted a number of forthcoming events.
Other events are planned for the near future; please keep an eye on the Branch web site. If you have any suggestions for younger members-related events, such as future technical seminar topics or site visits, please contact Lee Templeman.
